Overview:

Basecamp Foundation is working with communities in Kenya’s Masai Mara to create a ground breaking sustainable tourism model.  Its brainchild, the Mara Naboisho Conservancy, encompasses an area of land that is critical in safeguarding the unique Masai Mara-Serengeti ecosystem while empowering local people via sustainable tourism roles.

 

 


 

 

Film #2: Mount Kenya Trust

Overview:

The Mount Kenya Trust is leading the charge for long-term conservation of the Mount Kenya National Reserve and its resident elephant population. MKT’s efforts to reopen a wildlife corridor between the Mgare Ndare Forest and the Mount Kenya National Reserve has allowed elephant groups to continue their historic migration routes in addition to addressing the region’s deep-rooted human-wildlife conflict issues.

 

 


 

 

Film #3: Okapi Conservation Project

Overview:

Habitat destruction, poaching, and civil unrest in the northeast region of DR Congo have threatened the survival of one of its most unique species – the okapi. The Okapi Conservation Project (OCP) is working in partnership with local communities to protect and support the study of these rare and unusual forest dwellers.

North Carolina Zoo / UNITE for the Environment

Overview:

North Carolina Zoo collaborates on a series of field programs in remote corners of the planet, working hard to employ innovative approaches to address environmental challenges. One of their long-term programs – UNITE – is redefining the way conservation education is approached in Uganda, providing innovative curriculum for primary school children near Kibale National Park.



 

 

Film #5: Thomson Safaris

Country/Region: Tanzania, Eastern Serengeti Ecosystem

Overview:

By establishing the TCL Nature Refuge, the founders of Thomson Safaris realized a 30-year-old dream to protect wildlife, preserve habitats, and support communities in northern Tanzania. Since 2006, wildlife populations in the refuge have more than doubled; rare native tree species and threatened habitats have been protected; and East African communities have benefited through  education, women’s entrepreneurship, and sustainable technology programs. Safari-goers rave about this eco-friendly haven that combines cultural, wilderness, and adventure experiences.

 


 

 

Film #6: Fairtrade Africa / Kilimanjaro Native Cooperative Union (KNCU)

Country/Region: Moshi, Mount Kilimanjaro, Tanzania

Overview:

Fairtrade Africa represents the interest of fair trade-certified producers in Africa and works to connect consumers worldwide.  Their unique partnership with Kilimanjaro Native Cooperative Union (KNCU) coffee farmers, on the slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro, has resulted in community development projects that seek to empower and make a positive difference in the local community.

 



Green Living Project™ is headed back to Africa to produce 6 new films across Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda and D.R. Congo! The team is excited to document and showcase a diverse mix of leading international sustainability-related initiatives that will complement GLP's award-winning production work to date. These films will focus on important local and global issues including sustainable tourism, wildlife conservation, environmental education, fair trade, and community development.
