Green Empowerment and AsoFenix

Project Overview

What would your life be like if you had to walk for an hour to get drinking water or two hours to wash your clothes? If you had to do all your household chores during daylight hours or by the light of a candle or smoky gas lamp? That’s what daily life is like for many countless people in Nicaragua, the second-poorest country in the western hemisphere, where access to basic services is no more than a distant dream. Fortunately, a nonprofit organization called AsoFenix is developing creative, renewable energy solutions to bring clean water and electricity to rural communities. Through solar-powered water pumps, water-powered electrical turbines, and other projects, AsoFenix is truly making a difference in the lives of poor Nicaraguans.
