Manyara Ranch

Project Overview

Traditional cultures embracing creative solutions: African Wildlife Foundation (AWF) strives to conserve wildlife and its habitat while improving the livelihoods of Africans so they can lead in conserving their natural heritage. With the establishment of the Tanzanian Land Conservation Trust at the 44,000 acre Manyara Ranch, beneficiaries of AWF’s forward – thinking programs have been numerous: Maasai pastoralists are seeing improved livestock health + productivity with new facilities and services, a school was removed from a key wildlife corridor, dramatically improving educational conditions for students while reducing human/wildlife conflict and a recently opened cultural tourism destination run by Maasai women educates visitors to Maasai lifestyles and traditions while generating income for the community.
