The Gorilla Organization

Project Overview

The Gorilla Organization (GO), focused on securing the survival of the world’s last remaining gorillas, has a unique grass roots approach to environmental protection that promotes long term poverty alleviation and environmental education projects in the poor communities around the gorilla habitats – if locals’ lives are wrested from desperation, they won’t lean on the gorilla’s diminishing habitat and resources to subsist, significantly improving the chances for the species’ survival. GO’s programs include organic farming education, distribution of fuel efficient stoves, installation of rainwater catchment systems, establishing Wildlife Clubs that promote conservation education and support for traditional forest dwelling communities marginalized and displaced by the establishment of national parks.
