Project Overview

Respect and recycling through retail: Banana Boat stores of Uganda offer African textiles and tribal art, fairly traded with local suppliers. Owners Suni Magyar and Ralph Schenk offer tremendous support to store employees and suppliers (including the employee-owned cooperative Papercraft) with no-interest microloans and health care education. Capacity building through providing on-the-job training for their previously untrained, predominantly female and head-of-household staff, Papercraft sources pineapple, banana, elephant grass and recycled paper, repurposing waste materials into high-end hand crafted stationary products for retail sale.
